W.O.W. Talk: Week 6, KNOW YOURSELF

You're almost half way there!  We are in Week 6 of the W.O.W. (Women Out Walking) Challenge of 2005-- You go!

Remember to go to the Participant Log-in section of the W.O.W. website (http://www.womenshealth.wisc.edu/programs/wow6/login1.asp) to log your steps for last week.  You'll get an instant feedback report of your progress!

FOR WOMEN

"My mother gave me a bumblebee pin when I started work.  She said: 'Aerodynamically, bees shouldn't be able to fly.  But they do.  Remember that." ~~ Jill E. Barad, Chairman and CEO of Mattel

Tip of the Week:  Walk to your destination instead of driving.  You could even start a walking club with family and friends!

For Your Health

Know Yourself: Screening is the week's health topic.  The best way to stay healthy is to practice a healthy lifestyle.  You already know about eating a healthy diet, not smoking, and drinking alcohol only in moderation.  But health also includes getting the proper screening tests and acting appropriately on the information they provide.  Screenings help to identify diseases at their earliest stages-- and they can save your life.  Visit these websites for more information about screenings for women:

FOR GIRLS

Tip of the Week:  Ditch driving or catching rides and start a walking club.  Instead of sitting around and hanging out with your friends, get them to go out and walk with you while you catch up.

For You

Know Yourself: Puberty

Puberty is the time in a girl's life when her body changes from a girl to a woman.  During puberty, your body goes through some very exciting changes and in a way, you're learning about who you are!  To learn more about puberty and what changes to expect, check out the link below:

The world will never really know what is inside you unless you let it out.

"We're constantly being told what other people think we are, and that's why it's so important to know yourself." ~~ Sarah McLachlan, singer and songwriter
