I knew I was a couch potatoe but I didn't realize just how inactive I had become working in front of my computer all day. I can't say I feel better, (actually my feet are killing me!) but I can say I'm more actively aware of movement and with knowledge come wisdom. I'll keep walking from the midwest, trying to match the incredible achievements of my southwestern sister. Maybe we'll meet somewhere in the middle for a nice virtual visit!

This is a real challenge for me! Since I bicycle quite a lot (I seldom drive a car) and the pedometer does not register pedaling, I have been walking more - which is a better bone builder, but I will still consider myself "Active" after the challenge when I mix up my exercise again with biking and walking. In addition, the pedometer does not register all yoga or pilates moves(!) I am really "whupped" by the end of the day.
Could you dedicate one of your updates to the history of 10,000 steps as the measure for an Active lifestyle? I have not found much information yet on the Japanese Professor, Yoshira Hatano, PhD., and his research.
Thank you!
- Allison
WOW this is such a motivator! When I signed up I didn't think I would walk more than 1 mile every day. What a pleasant surprise each night when I take off the pedometer to log in my steps. I started out walking an average of 4500 steps and each day that number increased by 200+ steps. Yesterday I finally reached my goal of 10,000+ steps (3.5 miles). I think wearing the pedometer with the music on has encouraged me to keep walking. Thank you for making this program work for me and other women/girls around the country.

I've been really enjoying my self and my daughter is very excited about her walking and doing more then ever, I have not loged in my steps yet I've been away from work and will do this as soon as I can,I do know my total steps for last week was 60,656 and My daughter ( Calundra Williams) has 20,771.
Thank You
- Sandra Compton-Winbush
This is a great project! I had been meaning to make a concentrated effort to be more active, but never seemed to get around to it. Having the pedometer on all day has helped me actively think about walking more and trying to meet or exceed the daily goal.
My enthusiam has been contagious. My family and friends are also participating and we encouraging each other.
Thanks for helping motivate me to be healthier.

I'm not shy, I'll be the first to post!
Somehow I clicked on the wrong link and, unbeknownst to me, I've been virtually walking along the Great Lakes. I'm now back on the Sunbelt Challenge course - although I have a feeling the virtual temperature up north would be more pleasant.
Keep stepping y'all -
Leah
