About the Center for Women's
Health Research
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Women's Health Research has been designated a National Center of Excellence in Women's Health - Ambassadors for Change Center by the U.S. Public Health Service Office on Women's Health. The model centers were formed to provide integrated and comprehensive women's health services for women across the country.
The Centers' Purpose
The Centers are evaluated and duplicated across the nation to develop approaches to continually improve the delivery of women's health care. The Centers provide:
- A "one-stop shopping" model for the delivery of clinical health care services to women with an emphasis on prevention and early detection
- A multi-disciplinary research agenda on women's health issues
- Emphasis on psychosocial issues in health
- Coordination and linkage between clinical services in academic centers and surrounding communities
- Educational programs and material for the general public and health care professionals, using innovative information technologies and telemedicine approaches
- The integration of a women's health focus into medical school curriculum
- A "Women in Academic Medicine Leadership Plan" to foster the recruitment, retention and promotion of women in academic medical careers
- Networking within the community to form alliances with business groups, consumer groups, scientific organizations and public policy
- An evaluation plan to assess project outcomes and effectiveness
The Role of the U.S. Public Health Service Office on Women's Health
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on
Women's Health provides national leadership in advancing
women's health in public policy, research, service delivery
and education.
The office serves as a catalyst for developing national and
regional initiatives to improve women's health.
